Clerk to Governors

We are looking to recruit an organised and reliable candidate as a new Clerk to Governors. The successful applicant will be required to attend all four Full Governing Body meetings. Meetings are normally in the evening. The Clerk to Governors works closely with the Governors, Headteacher and office team to ensure the smooth running of the Governing Body. It is essential that the candidate has a good standard of practical knowledge and skills in administration as well as the ability to absorb regulations and procedural information and communicate this. Prior clerking experience in the educational sector would be advantageous but not essential. Appropriate training will be provided through Governor Services.

 

Time is allocated at 8 hours per Full Governor Meeting and 38 hours for additional Clerking tasks throughout the year. These are to include;

 

  • Monitoring the governing board membership/vacancies on Right Choice for Schools, and contact with School Governance Service as required to ensure governor records are updated
  • conduct parent/staff elections as and when required, other general admin tasks, e.g. uploading documents to online platform (Governor Hub) and induction of new governors/trustees.
  • General correspondence/emails
  • Booking training courses for governors
  • Monitoring dates of statutory or legally required policies for the GB
  • Advising on legislation and procedural matters (or seeking advice from the School Governance Service).
  • Attend relevant Clerks’ training/support meetings/conferences/ongoing CPD

 

The successful candidate would be required to attend the final Full Governor Meeting and AGM of the academic year on Wednesday 15th June. This would be paid as would any other additional time required to ensure a smotth handover.
