Kingswood 2021
Following an early night last night, the children woke up with lots of energy to be able to enjoy some of the more challenging activities of the weekend. A full English breakfast set them well on their way again! This morning group 1 had aeroball followed by balance beam whilst group 2 had abseiling followed by zip wire. It was wonderful seeing each child push themselves to their personal limits. We know that heights aren’t for everyone, but every child managed to challenge themselves through personal choice. For some, it meant going to the top whilst for others it meant climbing a ladder. Either way, a great achievement by all. After some problem solving activities, group 1 had abseiling followed by zip wire whilst group 2 had balance beam and the 3G swing. We have just enjoyed our dinner; meatballs with pasta or pizza with plenty of salad. The children are now participating in mini Olympics before another early night. Please be warned, we have some very tired children. They have all had an amazing time and are really excited to tell you all about their experiences. I’m sure you will join me in thanking Mrs Vince, Mrs Simpkins, Mrs Hartley and Mr Henning for helping your child to have such a wonderful time and giving up their weekend and time with their families. They have been truly amazing and so supportive to everyone. We are due to leave Kingswood at 11.15am tomorrow and are booked on the 12.30pm ferry. We hope to arrive back at Heddington for 3pm and look forward to seeing you then.
Day 2
It's been a fun-filled and jam-packed day today and the children have enjoyed all of the different activities; being challenged in different ways and conquering fears. We started with a wonderful breakfast which set us all up for the day ahead. One group made their way to the 3G swing followed by archery whilst the other group had climbing and aeroball. The rain started coming down about midday but it didn't dampen our spirits. After a subway-equivalent lunch, we had time in the shop to buy lots of goodies and more sweets! I really don't know where they put it all! They don't stop eating!!! During the afternoon, we had a lovely time at the beach and the sun even made an appearance. Children chose what they wanted to do with many going for fossil hunting and rock pooling. They also had great fun building sandcastles and having a kick around. We've just finished dinner (cottage pie, sausages, veg and mashed potatoes followed by doughnuts) and the children are now enjoying singing songs and playing campfire games. Everyone is in need of an early night after a shower.
Day 1
We left school at 10am and had a steady drive down to Southampton. Unfortunately, our ferry was delayed which gave plenty of time to eat lunch and play a few games. The crossing was much smoother than we feared it would be. On arrival, the Kingswood Team were delighted to see us. We are the first group back on site since March last year. To say we were treated with a royal welcome would be an understatement! There was no time to stop. We were straight in to our first activities of rock climbing and archery which the children loved. This was followed by dinner - fish, cheese and leek pie or southern fried quorn steak. There was also chips, mushy peas and plenty of salad. I've never seen the children devour so much so quickly and every child enjoyed their food. We've just had some time getting settled in dorms and making beds and now the children are doing scrapheap challenge before bed. We've got quite a few tired children and adults who are in need of a good night's sleep before a fun filled day tomorrow. Hope you enjoy the photographs. I will aim to do an update each evening but there will be regular updates on the school Facebook page throughout the day.
